Lake Front Event

Exciting Updates and How You Can Get Involved in Our Students for Stewardship Event This Sunday!

Hello Friend!

I hope this email finds you well! I wanted to send a quick update about our Students for Stewardship Meet and Greet event happening this Sunday, September 8th, at Issaqueena Lake.

We’re looking forward to a fantastic day filled with community building, hands-on activities, and inspiring discussions. Here’s what we have lined up:

Event Highlights:

  • Log Inoculation: Get hands-on experience inoculating logs, a fun and educational activity perfect for anyone interested in fungi and sustainable practices.

  • Starting From Seed: We’ll be planting winter seeds in small planters, open to everyone who wants to learn more about starting plants from seed.

  • Speakers and Discussions: We have a fantastic lineup of speakers, including Scott Bunn, The Farmgirl Deliveries twins, and Anaston Porter from Carolina Clear: local community members who are passionate about sustainability.

Schedule:

  • 6:00 PM: Event begins with log inoculation and seed planting activities. Feel free to join any activity or simply enjoy the atmosphere and explore the many cool things we have on display.

  • 6:30 PM: Speaker sessions begin, featuring 10-15 minute introductions from our guest speakers who are pillars of the community.

  • 7:30 PM: Social hour with refreshments, music, and a cozy fire for s’mores.

How You Can Help:

We’ll be pre-drilling logs and setting up for the event on Saturday and Sunday before the main event. If you’d like to get involved, join our GroupMe using the QR code below! While we will provide some refreshments, we recommend bringing your own reusable water bottle. Feel free to bring your favorite snacks to share or enjoy. We also hope to have a squash or two from the Hunnicutt Food Forest to share!

Students Join our Groupme!

Additionally, we invite everyone to start plants at home or take home the seeds we start to water and care for until our fall planting at Hunnicutt. It’s a great way to stay involved and contribute to our ongoing efforts.

Our Mission:

The Students for Stewardship Club is focused on creating and nurturing local spaces that promote food abundance and biodiversity. We connect people with resources and build a community committed to sustainable practices and environmental stewardship.

If you haven’t already, please check out our initial newsletter, which outlines our semester goals and provides details about what we are excites us students for stewardship. Feel free to share it with anyone who might be interested in joining us.

Thank you to everyone who has reached out with offers of help and support.

Looking forward to seeing you all on Sunday!
